Melbourne defeated Malvern 3-2 on Saturday after taking the lead late in the game, The game was tied two when Melbourne batting in the top of the ninth when McMahon doubled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring the leading run.
The pitching was strong on both sides, Melbourne pitchers struck out 10, while Malvern pitchers sat down 16, Malvern got on the board in the first inning with Burke hit a solo homer off the first pitch. Kurtis Smith settled well thereafter going 7 innings only giving up one other hit and a couple of walks with 6K’s. Hayden Godbold closed it out with a couple of innings in relief, allowing 2 hits and zero runs, striking out 4.
Melbourne outhit Malvern 7-4, McMahon led the offense going 3 for 5, Bronson Neave 2 hits, Pickett and Fittock 1 each.
The win puts the Demons at 1-1 and will face Berwick away next Sunday.
