Demons blow away Panthers
Melbourne asserted their will over Moorabbin on their way to an easy 8-1 victory on Sunday. With the wind blowing in and with rain threatening it was expected to be a tough day for scoring.
The Demons opened up scoring in the second innings when Fittock singled scoring Scalzo after a 2 out double.
The game really opened up in the sixth innings, Sayers doubled and was scored by Jones, Aron and Scalzo scored on a wild throw with loaded bases, 3 errors contributing to putting the game out of reach for Moorabbin,
Smith was the winning pitcher for Melbourne, he went seven innings, allowing four hits and one run while striking out three. The bullpen of Bowen and Godbold cleaned up the last two innings and closed only allowing a single baserunner.
The Demons had seven hits for the game, Fittock and Sayers with multiple hits, Jones, Scalzo and Aron 1 each.
Melbournes defence was the difference in the game – only one blemish in an otherwise dominant outing for the Demons. Melbourne look forward to playing newly promoted Mulgrave next Saturday.
